How to cook Cherry jam with walnuts

Step 1

Wash and dry the cherries, remove the pits with a hairpin or a toothpick (do not use a special device for removing pits, it severely injures the berry, and for this jam, the cherries should remain as whole as possible, with a small hole).

Step 2

Pour boiling water over walnuts and leave for 20 minutes. Then peel off the brown skin. Stuff the cherries with walnut pieces.

Step 3

Make syrup from sugar and water. Remove syrup from heat and add cherries, leave for 24 hours.

Step 4

Put the jam on the fire, bring to a boil and cook on a minimum heat for 40-50 minutes, until the berries and syrup are ready. Don't let it boil! For 10 min. before the end of cooking, add the vanilla pod cut in half. Pour hot jam into jars, roll up lids and wrap.
