Pearl barley with meat

Today, pearl barley has lost its former popularity. But for many centuries it was one of the main grains widely used in Russian cuisine. Pearl barley was even Peter the Great's favorite porridge.
How to cook Pearl barley with meat
Step 1

Cut the carrots into thin slices.
Step 2

Cut the pork into small pieces.
Step 3

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan and fry the pork for 5-7 minutes until golden brown. Salt and pepper the meat to taste.
Step 4

Add carrots and spices to the pan. Stir and fry for 2-3 minutes.
Step 5

Add pearl barley and water to the pan.
Step 6

Bring the water to a boil, reduce heat and cover the dish with a lid.
Step 7

Simmer the pearl barley for 30-40 minutes until done.
Step 8

The pearl barley with meat is ready. Enjoy your meal!
