How to cook Herring baked with potatoes

Step 1

Soak lightly salted herring fillets in a mixture of milk and water for 10-12 hours and cut into large slices. Peel potatoes, cut into thin circles. Chop the onion, fry in vegetable oil until soft, let cool.

Step 2

Grease a baking dish with oil, lay out layers of potatoes and herring, brushing each layer with a beaten egg. Top with finely chopped onion and dill. Lubricate the last potato layer thickly with egg, pour over sour cream and bake in the oven at 180ºС for 25–30 minutes.

Step 3

Meanwhile, prepare the sauce. Boil hard boiled eggs, chop them coarsely. Peel and dice the onion, lightly heat it in melted butter with lemon juice, then mix with chopped eggs and dill. Before serving, pour the sauce over the baked herring.
