Lemonade from lemons
Scientists say that lemonade was prepared from lemons in the time of Alexander the Great. However, what name this drink then bore, history is silent. The familiar name appeared later, in the 1st century AD in France. They say that the lemonade was prepared quite by accident: the servant mixed up the jugs and served lemon juice to the king, fortunately having managed to dilute it with water at the last moment. And the monarch liked the drink very much! According to legend, the king himself called the contents of the glass lemonade, meaning something that gives coolness. Later, lemonade from lemons began to be prepared throughout Europe, and the Italians generally invented a lot of their variations on this theme. Try to create a similar drink in your kitchen and make sure that its taste can truly be called "royal"!
Ingredients
Servings 10- lemons - 9 pcs.
- sugar - 300-350 g
- drinking water - 2–2.5 l
Cooking
Step 1
Prepare the lemonade ingredients. First, take the lemons and wash them thoroughly with warm running water using a dish sponge and detergent.
Step 2
Pat the lemons dry with paper towels. Then place eight lemons on the work surface and, pressing lightly, roll for 2-3 seconds to make it easier to squeeze the juice out of them.
Step 3
Cut the lemons in half and squeeze the juice by hand or with a citrus juicer. You should have about 350 ml (1.5 cups). Strain through a sieve to remove the pits.
Step 4
Pour sugar into a saucepan and pour in 250 ml of drinking water. Put on fire, bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from fire.
Step 5
Combine lemon juice and remaining water in a large pitcher. Pour in the syrup and stir. Let cool and put the lemonade in the refrigerator. Before serving, cut the remaining lemon into circles and add to the pitcher of lemonade.
