How to cook Fried apple rings

Step 1

Mix flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Pour in water and 1 tbsp. l. vegetable oil and mix with a whisk. You will get a dough that is similar in thickness to kefir. If needed, add a little more water or flour.

Step 2

Fried apple rings

Peel the apples and remove the core. Cut the apples into rings 1.2–1.5 cm thick.

Step 3

Pour vegetable oil into a small saucepan or deep fryer to a depth of about 4 cm and heat well. To check the readiness of the oil, scoop up some dough and dip it into the pan - if the oil sizzles around and the dough quickly turns golden, then you can start frying.

Step 4

Fried apple rings

Dip the apple ring in the batter and gently lower into the hot oil. Fry on both sides until golden brown. Transfer the finished ring to crumpled paper towels to remove excess oil. Fry all the rings in this way.

Step 5

Fried apple rings

Pour sugar into a saucer and dip the apple rings on both sides in sugar, then sprinkle with cinnamon. Serve immediately.

This recipe is naturally dairy-free since the batter uses water. Just ensure the vegetable oil you use is also dairy-free.
Fried apple rings are best served immediately. However, you can store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 24 hours. Note that they will lose their crispness.
Freezing is not recommended as the texture will become very soft upon thawing. The crispiness is lost, and the apples can become mushy.
Nutmeg, cardamom, or apple pie spice blends are excellent alternatives or additions to cinnamon. Experiment to find your favorite flavor combination!
While frying provides the signature crispy texture, you could try baking them. Place the batter-dipped apple rings on a greased baking sheet and bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown. The texture will be different from fried apple rings.
Crisp, slightly tart apples like Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji hold their shape well during frying and provide a delicious contrast to the sweet batter and sugar coating.
