Ketchup with apples

Homemade ketchup with apples is a variation on the classic theme, which has its undeniable advantages. Firstly, the consistency of such a product is denser than a sauce made only from tomatoes. The fact is that apples are rich in pectin, which is a natural thickener. Secondly, we note the special, more intense taste of such ketchup, enriched with pleasant fruity notes. Well, one cannot fail to note the exquisite aroma of the sauce, for which, again, one should say “thank you” to the apples. The process of making ketchup is not too complicated, so even a hostess who is not very experienced in the field of home canning can check our recipe in practice.

Ingredients

Servings 10 servings
  • tomatoes - 2 kg
  • apples - 500 g
  • salt - 50 g
  • sugar - 50 g
  • ground black pepper - 1 tsp.
  • ground red hot pepper - 1 tsp.
  • ground cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
  • grated nutmeg - on the tip of a knife

Cooking

Step 1

Prepare the ketchup ingredients. Wash the tomatoes, remove the base of the stalks. Cut the pulp into slices. Wash the apples and cut into quarters. Remove cores with seeds.

Step 2

Tomatoes and apples, without peeling, pass through a meat grinder with a frequent grate. Transfer the resulting puree to a suitable size pan with a thick bottom.

Step 3

Add salt and sugar to the tomato-apple puree. Put on medium heat. Bring to a boil. Cook the ketchup over low heat, stirring occasionally, for 2 hours.

Step 4

10 minutes before cooking, add red and black pepper, as well as ground cinnamon and grated nutmeg. Mix thoroughly. Rub the ketchup through a fine sieve. Bring to a boil again and pour into dry sterilized jars. Roll up and let cool.
