Wash the peaches, cut in half, remove the stone. Put the fruit on a dish cut down, make a shallow cruciform cut on top. Pour the sugar for the syrup into a saucepan, pour in 0.5 cups of water, heat without stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. 6. Pour the hot syrup over the peaches, cover with foil and let stand for 5 minutes. Transfer the peaches to the pie. BTW Peaches are delicious, both fresh and cooked.
