Glazed beets with cloves and cinnamon

Beets are a traditional and very healthy product and you can cook quite interesting dishes with it. Especially the recipe will appeal to lovers of rich spicy taste.

Ingredients

Servings 2
  • 1 small beetroot
  • 4 cloves
  • juice of 1 orange
  • zest of 1/2 orange
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • vegetable oil
  • salt, sugar
  • ground ginger

Cooking

Step 1

Rinse beets thoroughly and dry. Make small cuts on the sides with a knife and stuff the beets with cloves. Wrap the beets in several layers of foil along with strips of orange peel and a pinch of ground ginger. Bake in the oven at 180 degrees for about 1.5 hours until the beets are soft.

Step 2

Remove the beets, remove the cloves, peel and cut into slices. Squeeze the juice from the orange, cut the zest into thin strips.

Step 3

Heat the frying pan, add a little vegetable oil, orange juice and part of the zest, a cinnamon stick, 1/2 tsp. sugar (preferably cane), ground ginger on the tip of a knife and boil the syrup a little. As soon as the syrup begins to thicken, put the pieces of beets into it and glaze. Season to taste with salt and sugar.

Step 4

Serve warm. You can decorate with strips of zest and a mint or basil leaf.
