Classic American Burger

The classic American burger for US residents is not just food, but part of life, culture, if you like! And although according to one version of the birth of this dish, the author was an emigrant from Hamburg, this does not negate the fact that it was invented in the New World. And then things went on! In 1904, at the St. Louis Fair, burgers "tasted" and began to gain popularity. And 30 years later, when Walter Anderson founded the White Castle Hamburger chain of eateries in Kansas, the dish could already be safely called the gastronomic symbol of America. Nowadays, the classic American burger is served all over the world. But to be sure of the quality, it is better to try to reproduce this sandwich at home, in your own kitchen. Our recipe is here to help!

Ingredients

Servings 6
  • 1 kg beef pulp
  • 250 g beef fat or lard
  • 1 large onion
  • salt, freshly ground black pepper
  • butter
  • 6 burger buns
  • 4 pickled cucumbers
  • 1 large tomato
  • 1 red sweet onion
  • lettuce or romaine lettuce leaves
  • ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise
  • butter

Cooking

Step 1

Prepare minced meat for classic American burgers. Peel and very finely chop the onion. Melt the butter in a frying pan, put the onion and simmer over low heat for 5-7 minutes. Cool down.

Step 2

Cut off all the films from the beef pulp. Turn the meat through a meat grinder with a large grate. Then check the fat. Add onion to meat and fat, salt, pepper and mix thoroughly.

Step 3

Divide the burger mince into 6 equal portions and form into 6 2.5 cm thick patties with wet hands. Place on a parchment-lined tray and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Step 4

To serve classic American burgers, cut the onion into thin rings, the tomato and cucumbers into thin circles. Cut the buns in half and brush the cut with butter. Put all the necessary ingredients on the table.

Step 5

Kindle the coals in the brazier or barbecue - they should burn well and be covered with gray ash. Heat the grate, grease. Add burgers and cook, turning every 2 minutes, until desired doneness. Then fry the buns on the coals from the cut side - literally for 10 seconds, otherwise they will burn!

Step 6

Classic American burgers are usually assembled like this: a lettuce leaf is placed on the bottom of the bun, then a burger, onions, tomatoes and cucumbers. The top of the bun is smeared with ketchup, mustard or mayonnaise. Close the burger just before eating.
