
Cut the onion into thin strips.

Grate the carrots on a coarse grater.

Chop the cabbage into thin strips.

Cut the pork into small strips.

Cut the potatoes into thin cubes.

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan. Fry onions and carrots over medium heat for 7 minutes until soft and golden.

Pour water into a saucepan or large ladle, bring to a boil and drop in the pork pieces, potatoes and cabbage. Cook the soup over low heat, skimming off the foam periodically.

Add bay leaf, peppercorns and a couple of pinches of salt to the soup.

When the cabbage, meat and potatoes are ready, add the fried onions and carrots to the soup.

Stir. Cook the soup for another 10 minutes.

The pork shchi is ready. The soup will be even more delicious if you let it sit under the lid for half an hour or an hour. Serve the shchi with sour cream and chopped green onions. Enjoy your meal.
